Marilyne Janet Messenger
May 14, 1923 - December 4, 2006
Marilyne was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Esther and Frank Schwartz.
As a teenager, Marilyne sang on the radio in Milwaukee, becoming the lead singer for station WTMJ. As lead singer she was able to debut new, popular songs in the Milwaukee area. She carried a love of music and dance with her throughout her life.
She met her husband, William Messenger, while singing in a dance hall, though he always claimed it was a bar! The story goes that the first time Bill saw Marilyne was when he walked into the hall with his mother. He turned to his mom and said, "That's the girl I'm going to marry". Fortunate it was, too, for they gave the world four wonderful children (one of them must be writing this obituary!).
Although they were only married for 35 years-Bill was killed in 1980-they were 35 happy and wondrous years. They moved to Los Angeles while Bill was serving in the army during WWII, moving to Norwalk, California in 1950 where they raised their family.
Marilyne is survived by her four children, Marilyne, Bill, Melodee and Robin. She has five grandchildren: Kenny, Kelly, Kevin, Janet and Mary Catherine. And she has four great grandchildren: Haley, Grayson, Kody and Jonah.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, December 10th at 2:00 PM in the chapel at McCormick Mortuary in Inglewood. Interment will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 11th at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
