Marie Louise Nickerson

marie nickerson
Marie Louise Nickerson was born on June 29, 1927, In Newark, New Jersey. She was the first child born to the union of William Lenox and Clara (Lett) Pinion. Marie Louise accepted Christ at an early age, joined church and lived a life of service. She was faithful in that service until the end. Marie Louise worked hard to complete her education. She received her high school equivalency diploma from the University of the State of New York Education Department. She had a thirst for knowledge and received a certificate from Essex County Adult Technical School in the Beauty Culture Trade in 1955. On May 28, 1963, she was awarded a certificate from Jersey City, New Jersey School of Business Machines in IBM Key Punch Operations. The City of New York Human Resources Administration acknowledged her achievement for successfully completing a course in Intensive Clerical Development. In 1971, Marie moved to Los Angeles, California to take a position with the Federal Government at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Westwood, California. She was later promoted and transferred to the Department of the Navy Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Marie Louise’s last assignment was at the Naval Weapon Station, Seal Beach, California, as a Supervisor of Payroll Accounts. She retired February 27, 1986. Marie always worked hard and cared for her family members, because her mother passed at an early age. Marie helped her grandmother Nancy Lett to care for her siblings until her grandmother passed away. She stepped up again and did the responsible thing, caring for her baby brother Johnny until he joined the United States Air Force. Marie was very creative and loved to travel, read and sew. She enjoyed movies and all types of music and arts. Her trip to Paris, France was the highlight of her travels. In 1988, she moved to a retirement community in Orlando, Florida, where she resided until August 2010. Her baby brother Johnny brought her back to California, so he could care for his loving sister as she had cared for him in earlier years. Marie Louise was so highly loved and respected by her brother Johnny that he named his daughter “Louise Marie.” The family thereafter referred to them as “Big Lou” and “Little Lou.” “Lil Louise” preceded her aunt in death on July 9, 2009. The siblings that preceded her in death were her sisters: Nancy and Hazel; brother, Joseph; three half-brothers, William, Lloyd and Donald. Marie Louise leaves to celebrate her life, her brother John (Juanita); half-sister Donna Cabell of New Jersey; nieces and nephews: Veronica Pinion, Stephanie Reid (Jerryl), Denise, Quincy, Joseph Jr., Kerman and Walter Pinion (Logii), Tyrone, Regina, Donnell, Marlene, Alecia, Mary J., Audrey, Rose; also Elaine Pinion, all of New Jersey; and a multitude of other family members and friends.

Guestbook

  1. My sincere and deep sympathy goes out to John and Juanita. I thank God that for the brief time that Louise was in CA., she was with her family when she made her transition. I am thankful that Louise and I got to know one another better and I enjoyed my talks with her. Louise’s pain and grief are over. May she rest forever more in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
