Maria Paz
Maria Paz Fernandez Sulit passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020 in Torrance, CA, at the age of 80. Born in Dagupan City, Philippines in 1939, Maria Paz spent most of her life in Los Angeles, CA. She was most recently a member of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA. Maria Paz proudly earned five academic degrees in the Philippines and the United States. She married her lifetime sweetheart, Hector Sulit, in 1966. After immigrating to Los Angeles, CA, in 1973, she lovingly raised her three children and worked as the orthoptist and office manager at Hector’s eye clinic. Full of joy, Maria Paz loved to play the piano, dance, and cook. Always by Hector’s side, she was an active member of the Marinduque Association of Southern California and the Philippine Medical Association of Southern California. She spoke five languages and talked with anyone and everyone. She especially loved talking about growing up in a family of 14 brothers and sisters; about her three children: Victor Sulit (a medical doctor), Ana Schmidt (a family law attorney), and Freddie Sulit (an animation producer); and about her “apo” Wilder (grandson). Maria Paz is survived by husband Dr. Hector L. Sulit; son Dr. Victor Sulit; daughter Ana Sulit Schmidt, son-in-law Chris Schmidt, and Lucas Schmidt; son Freddie Sulit, daughter-in-law Tan-ya Gerrodette, and Wilder Gerrodette-Sulit. A vigil and gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday, January 10, 2020, at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions - Rice Center in Torrance, CA . The funeral mass will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 11, 2020. A reception follows from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions - Rice Center.
