Brierley, Peggy J. Margerite Jane (Peggy) Brierley, age 90, passed peacefully at home in Reno, Nevada, surrounded by family on January 14, 2012. Born in Los Angeles, California on December 10, 1921 to Albert John and Margaret Katherine (Riordan) Wurzell, she was the third of four children. Peggy met and married a handsome U.S. Naval Officer, Frederick J. Brierley, who was stationed in San Diego in 1945. They raised three children, Kathy (Larry); Duffy (Gail) and Casey during their 62 years of marriage, which ended in 2007 with the passing of Fred. Besides her children, Peggy is survived by six grandchildren, Scott (Karen); Kelly (Nick); Bonnie (Ricky); Sean (fiancée Kristen); Kyle and Brigitte and one great grandson Casen and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was active in Guild 15 (St. Teresa) at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church and served as President of the Parish Council of Women. She was also involved with Bishop Montgomery High School, serving as President of the Mother's Club. Peggy prided herself in keeping an immaculate home and exercising her culinary talents which without fail, featured some fancy dessert that took days to craft. She enjoyed playing bridge, playing poker, playing golf and being married to Fred. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2012 at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church at 4:00pm, with a reception immediately following at the church. Peggy will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA. The Brierley family wishes to thank the staff at Atria Summit Ridge for their exceptional and loving care over the past year. A scholarship fund has been established in Peggy's name at Bishop Montgomery High School. Donations may be sent to Bishop Montgomery High School, 5430 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503 Attn: Development Department. Please specify the Peggy Brierley Memorial Scholarship.
