Margaret Alice "Peggy" Hartley passed away peacefully on May 11, 2010, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Fred. Born in Victoria, B.C., Canada, she immigrated to California in 1940. She was a devoted wife and caring mother to her two children and her grandchildren. In the community, she volunteered her time and was a quiet philanthropist who generously supported numerous organizations. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. The memorial celebration of her life will be with family in Canada.

  1. Steve joins me in sending our deepfelt sympathy to you–Marnie and Jackie–and your families. Our remembrances of Peggy go back to those times when our families were neighbors; I did, however, keep in touch with Peggy in more recent years when she lived alone, and I’ll treasure those memories of an independent, principled and fine woman as well We send our love.

  2. I didn’t know Margaret, and yet I feel as though I did. I am honored to be a friend to her son, Jack who carries on her legacy of compassion and community service. Jack’s volunteer service in the community of Big Bear Lake, CA reflects his mother’s commitment to “pay it forward” as he has helped hundreds, if not thousands of people in his efforts to provide life-saving heart monitoring devices in public access areas, and his work for various mental health groups in the community. He spoke often of Peggy and the balance she espoused to tenderly provide to the weak, but also to give them the strong message about pulling up by those boot straps. Big Bear Lake has been profoundly affected by Peggy Hartley through the efforts of her son. I send white rays of light to the Hartley family during this time of loss.

  3. The Peggy Hartley Family, Ray and I send our deepest sympathy. We have many happy memories of your mother. We had the pleasure of traveling with her on many over seas trips. It was only a few weeks ago that I called her on her 90th birthday and she was still the same Peggy with her good sense of humor. May you find comfort in knowing her friends are thinking of you in this sad hour. Love, Jimmye

  4. We are sorry to hear of MS Hartley’s passing. I worked for Unocal from 1969-2004 and we have fond memories of the Hartleys Bill and Brooke Mueller

  5. So sorry to hear of Peggy’s passing. I have such fond memories of the Hartley family, having been honored to be their guest one summer years ago at the island on Rainy Lake. I went as their son Jack’s guest, and what a wonderful week we had, fishing and playing all week long. The Hartleys are wonderful people.
