Mardell Lois Simon, a 56 year resident of Redondo Beach CA, passed away on Friday May 6, 2016 in Redondo Beach, CA. Born in Dakota City Nebraska, Mardell was 85 when she died. Mardell attended the University of Nebraska where she met her future husband, Frank Simon. She and Frank married in a civil ceremony in Redwood City California upon Frank's return from a tour of duty in Korea while serving with the U.S. Army. They returned to Nebraska where she taught school until their daughter was born in 1956.
In 1960, she and Frank moved to California to enjoy a healthier economic climate and raise their daughter. Mardell taught kindergarten and first grade until she retired from the Torrance Unified School District after 30 plus years.
She and her husband loved to travel. They circled the globe, cruising through the Panama Canal, venturing through China, touring all across Europe by bus, sailing the Mediterranean, and walking the streets of London.
Mardell was also an avid crossword puzzle worker, completing the daily puzzle in the Los Angeles Times until she was no longer able to focus her attention on them.
Mardell is survived by daughter Shan Cavoretto, grandchildren Andrea and Chris Cavoretto, her brother Lee Lamp, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frank Simon Jr.
