Marcella Bowen

marcella bowen
Marcella "Chunky" Bowen, 67, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2014, at Little Company of Mary Hospital, in Torrance, California. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Marcella was born September 27, 1946, in Monrovia, California, to Marcello Sanchez and Tomasa (Miranda) Sanchez. She is survived by her son, Douglas Bowe, daughter, Tomasa Richmond, son-in-law, James Richmond, grandson, Michael Anthony Bowen, grand-daughter, Palani Marcella Richmond, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. Marcella was a loving mother to Tomasa and Douglas. She never missed any of Doug's sports events. She was his biggest cheerleader whether he was playing or coaching. She wasn't a conventional mother. She was the one taking both her kids to their first NFL football games. When Tomasa had Michael, she looked to her mother to teach her how to be a mom. Marcella's interests were very diverse. She belonged to the Brotherhood of Street Racers and spent years volunteering her time at the racetrack on Terminal Island. It was a normal event to see her racing her Cadillac down the quarter mile for bracket races. Marcella also belonged to a Scottish Terrier Group. She loved her Scottie's, Sydney, Agnes, and Shawna. Showing Agnes at dog shows brought her great happiness. Marcella's biggest joy came from being the best grandma ever. Her and Michael were always together. Whether going out to dinner, sneaking snacks into the movies, or just cooking their favorite dish, salmon in wine sauce, she just loved spending time with her grandson. She spent many weekends cheering him on at the BMX track and on the football field. When Palani was born, she was so excited to have a grand-daughter. Spoiling her grand-children was her favorite thing to do and she was an expert at it. Although she will be missed greatly, she now rests in piece in a new body free of the horrible disease of diabetes. Take comfort in knowing that this is not where it ends....we will see her again. So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. John 16.22 We will be celebrating Marcella's life on: March 15, 2014, 2:00 p.m. Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA, 90503 A reception will follow from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the same location.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My sincerest sympathy goes to Tomasa, Doug and family. She has always been a great Aunt…stood by me through thick and thin. I will always remember and I have the best memories of her to carry in my heart forever. May her beautiful sole rest in the palm of Gods hand. R.I.P Aunt Chunky…….Love your niece, Lupe Ramirez.

  2. She was beautiful, but not like those women in the magazine. She was beautiful for the way she thought. She was beautiful for that sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful for her ability to make other people smile even if she was sad. Aunt Chunky was beautiful, deep down to her soul! Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right and forget about the ones who don\’t! And believe that everything happens for a reason… if you get a chance- take it: if it changes your life-let it. Nobody said that it would be easy… they just promised it would be worth it. R.I.P Aunt Chunky….Love you forever…Ben & Carol, Anthony, Maxine & Ruben, Yuki, and Ben Jr.& grandkids.

  3. Extending heartfelt condolences for your loss. Proverbs 17:22 says “a joyful heart is good medicine”, therefore, may treasured memories bring you joy and warm your heart. May you have the empathy, comfort and support from family and friends now, and as long as it is needed. Another source of comfort is our loving Heavenly Father, he is available any time day or night, and is only a prayer away. Psalm 65:2 calls God the “Hearer of prayer”, and Psalm 145:18 says “he is near to all those calling on him”. 1 John 4:8 says “God IS love”. it is that love that moved Him to send his only begotten son, Jesus, as a ransom sacrifice so those who have fallen asleep in death may have the hope of the resurrection, that hope is found at Acts 24:15. God has promised at Revelation 21:4 that soon “death will be no more”, and Isaiah 33:24 speaks of a time when “no resident will say “I am sick””. You can have full confidence in the fulfillment of these Scriptures, because Titus 1:2 states “God cannot lie”. May Jehovah, the Father of tender mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials (2 Corinthians 1:3,4), comfort you in your time of need.
