Louis (Luigi) Nuzzaci, known by family and friends as â€œThe Godfatherâ€, passed away Friday, August 23rd from complications of congestive heart failure. He was 85.
He was born May 23rd, 1917 in Monessen, PA. He was one of 6 children. He grew up working in the coal mines in Pennsylvania. He entered the Army and served during World War II, attaining the rank of Quarter Master and a rifle marksman. He moved to California after the war ended and entered the grocery store industry. He became part owner in the Beverly Glen Market where he was loved by customers and co-workers alike. From the poor and unknown to the rich and famous, everyone knew â€œLuigiâ€. A heart problem forced him into early retirement in 1976 and led to open heart surgery in 1979.
He would have celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary this November. From his immediate family he is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, in Lawndale; his son, Ken Roberts, in Redondo Beach; a brother, Sam Nuzzaci, in Monessen, PA; a brother, Tom Nuzzaci, in Milford, CT; and a sister, Mary Sasok, in Monessen, PA.
There will be a viewing for family and friends today at White & Day Hermosa Mortuary located at 338 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach from 4:00-8:00 PM. Services will be held Saturday, August 31st at 2:00 PM at Pacific Crest Cemetery located at 2701 W. 182nd St. at Inglewood Ave.
