Lloyd Alfred Brown, Sr., a 51 year resident of Torrance, passed away on Tuesday April 19, 2016. Born in Glendale California, Lloyd was 85 when he died. Lloyd was a long time member of St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church. Lloyd retired from General Telephone Company in 1987, but never stopped working, dabbling as a travel consultant, and continuing his involvement in many civic activities such as the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. He also devoted countless hours to his church as a lector and Eucharistic Minister trainer and scheduler. Since 2010, Lloyd served as a volunteer with Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Hospice and, more recently, the bereavement support group at St Lawrence as well. Lloyd was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Kathleen, infant children Thomas and Harry, and his sister, Marjorie Hertan. He is survived by his children Lloyd (Tanya), Patrick (Lauri), Michael (Lorita), Jerry, Stephen (Suni), Ruth Sanborn (Jim), Joseph (Jennifer), Margaret Hills, Kathleen Fellows (Matthew) and Karen, as well as 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, his brother Darrell Brown, and dozens of nieces and nephews. A Vigil Service will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church on April 26, 2016 at 7:00 pm, and a Mass of Christian Burial on April 27, 2016 at 7:00 pm. Lloyd will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Torrance Memorial Medical Center Hospice.
