Linda
Linda Eicher Dunn (1944-2011) Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Linda Dunn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Torrance, CA, on April 1, 2011, due to complications from a hospitalization for pneumonia.Linda was born in Cincinnati, OH, on June 22, 1944, and grew up in nearby Hamilton, OH, where she graduated from Garfield High School in 1962. She married Kenneth Dunn on June 12, 1965. The couple relocated from Ohio to Redondo Beach in 1970. While raising her two daughters Nicole and Erica, Linda worked as a teacher at La Primera preschool. After completing her bachelor's degree at Cal State University, Long Beach, in 1982, she worked as a computer programmer first for Northrup Grumman and then for Princess Cruises, retiring in 2006 after 24 years. A lifelong traveler with an insatiable appetite for new adventures, Linda sojourned across the globe-often accompanied by family and friends-trekking to such exotic locales as Mali, West Africa, Egypt, China, as well as cruising on the Amazon River. An Ohioan by birth and a Californian by inclination, Linda loved the outdoors, spending many pleasant days at the beach, hiking at Will Rogers State Historic Park, gardening, and just soaking up the sun in her backyard. Family was the anchor of Linda's life. After relocating to California, she returned frequently to Ohio to visit her parents, sister, and other family and friends. Her home in Torrance, too, was a destination for many friends, family, where she treated one and all to the best hospitality-good company and much laughter-creating indelible memories. Her family and friends cherished her great sense of humor, affectionate nature, and zest for life. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband Kenneth of Torrance, daughters Nicole (Chris) of Los Angeles, and Erica (Phil) of Portland, OR, parents Robert and Betty Eicher of Fairfield, OH, sister Nancy Hibbard (Luke) also of Fairfield, sister-in-law Janice Blum of Georgetown, OH, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, at 11 a.m. also at Rice Mortuary. 1. It was so sad to hear about the passing of such a wonderful lady. I remember when she started here at Princess and I worked with her in IT until she retired. She also used to work with my brother at Northrop before she came to Princess. She will be truly missed. My prayers and thoughts go out to the whole family and may time heal your heavy hearts.

  2. Linda and I were co-workers at Princess Cruises. Following her retirement, we stayed in contact and often talked on the phone, email, visited at home, and went for hikes in the local parks. I was very shocked to learn of her illness and passing – it all happened so fast. I will miss her very much. Linda was a compassionate, caring, and very supportive friend. I can’t stop thinking of what Ken is going through in these difficult times. I’m sure Linda’s spirit is watching over all of us from heaven.

  3. I had the pleasure of knowing Linda through her daughter, Nicole, who has been my best friend for over 14 years now. Linda, you will be dearly missed by us all. You were such a joy to be around, full of laughter and happiness. I’ll always remember the stories your daughter shared of your adventures and the wonderful time we had together shopping for her wedding dress. Rest in peace and continue to watch over your family and friends. Love, Stephanie

  4. Linda was one of my guardian angels. She believed in me when I was not able to believe in myself. She took me under her wing with no judgment. She was not only a gift and special presence in my life but she was a genuine gift to this world. We could all learn from her patient and giving ways. She was truly a beautiful soul that shined. As a leader, a mother, a friend. A caring compassionate living angel. Thank you for making such a profound difference in my life. I love you Linda and thank you for making my life better. Until we meet again and pick up branches on the beach love Becky

  6. My condolences to Linda’s parents, husband and children. Linda was a wonderful person, warm, kind and caring. We will miss her greatly.

  7. Dear Family, I was so sorry and deeply saddened to learn of Linda’s death. Though she will be missed dearly, may your treasured memories of Linda comfort and bring you peace during this sad time. Linda will continue to be with all of you in spirit and in your hearts each day. I have such fond memories of our childhood days with my cousins, Linda & Nancy, especially those spent on the Shandon farm. Those are some of my most cherished. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. With our sincere sympathy Love, Jan and Steve Sedona, Arizona jsh-az@sedona.net
