Lethe Etta Lyman passed away on June 15, 2011. Lethe was born on February 20, 1919, in Los Angeles, California, to Charles Keller and Minerva Ella (Bray) Keller. Lethe grew up in South Bay and graduated from Redondo Beach High School in 1937. After attending UCSB, she married her first husband, Clifford Hersey, and raised her two children, Karen and Michael. Lethe lost her husband in 1970 and was lucky to marry the second love of her life, Dell Lyman, in 1978. They enjoyed an active lifestyle and loved square dancing, traveling, and golfing. They left the South Bay in 1982 and followed Lethe’s daughter and her family to Ojai. They enjoyed being grandparents to Richard Rowe and Caroline Stubbs and attended many baseball, football, and volleyball games in matching outfits. After Dell’s death in 1986, Lethe continued traveling and golfing with friends. She especially enjoyed weekend trips to Morro Bay and Solvang, and she loved to meet friends at the Little House. Lethe is survived by her daughter, Karen Rowe (husband Breal), of Ojai; son, Clifford Michael Hersey, of Running Springs; granddaughter, Caroline Stubbs (husband Mark), of Oak View; grandson, Richard Rowe (wife Jamie), of Ojai; sister, Jean Baughman (husband Jim), of Garden Grove; great-grandchildren Breal, Hattie, Sydnie, Noah, and Bella Rowe of Ojai; and many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff of Los Robles Care Center for taking such great care of Grandma. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Help of Ojai. Although Lethe did not want any services held after her death, her family will gather for her interment at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11:00 am.
