Leta Faye Stephens (Carter) born February 14th 1933 in Comanche, Ok and a member of the Crenshaw Baptist Church, passed September 12th in Covina, Ca. Mrs. Stephens was a resident of Torrance over 48yrs and had lived in California since 1954. Prior to arriving in California she made stops in Oregon, South Carolina and Oklahoma. While an excellent student at Comanche High School she also lettered in basketball while working as a waitress in her off hours, before settling in at Northrop Aircraft where she worked for over 30 years. She also worked for Frito-Lay and National Cash Register. Mrs. Stephens was the ultimate wife and mother. No matter how many hours she worked she always made sure dinner was prepared for her husband and two sons. She was also a fanatic about making sure Gary and James clothes were clean and pressed for them to attend school. Both boys were the "apple of her eye" and she loved attending their athletic contests and any school production in which they performed. Leta very much enjoyed both sewing and crocheting, creating bed spreads, valances, blankets and Afghans for her family. As if this wasn't enough she loved to work in the garden and was very talented painting on canvas. Being very fond of Christmas she always made sure her children and grandchildren had money to purchase gifts and spoiled them on Christmas morning. Leta Stephens is survived by sons Gary and James, daughter- in- laws Lori and Jennifer, grandchildren James Jr., Jaime and her husband Andrew, and great granddaughter Juliana. Services will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Friday September 19 at 10:00a.m with burial following at Pacific Crest Mortuary. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Vitas Innovative Hospice (Covina, Ca) or Crenshaw Baptist Church.
