LEIF HERMANN HANSEN, resident of Redondo Beach and Torrance, passed away on May 21, 2003 at 5:20 p.m. after a short illness. The cause of death was adenocarcnoma. Born in Norway 12-1-32, he lived and worked there until he emigrated to the United States at the end of 1989. Mr. Hansen is survived by a son, a daughter and 3 grandchildren. He is also survived by a multitude of family members in Norway, nieces, nephews, cousins, et cetera. He donated a great deal of his time to feeding the homeless several days a week for the last ten years of his life at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. A portion of his ashes were put to sea on June 12, 2003 on the same boat that he loved and upon which he served off and on during the last years of his life. The service was given by Captain Arthur Windsor, who was a great friend of his. It was quite lovely. He started his working life at sea at the age of 15. His life ended at the age of 70 years old. He loved the sea, and the sea loved him back. He was known as ''Pops'' around the docks in Redondo Beach, and was much loved there! A ceremony will be held in the summer of 2004 in the town of Tromsoe, Norway, where the last of his ashes will be buried next to his immediate family, his mother and father. We will love you always Papa.
