Lawrence
Bower, Lawrence Darrell, a 60 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011, in Hermosa Beach. Larry was 78 when he died. Born, Sept. 2, 1932, in Canon City, CO, after graduating from Holy Cross Abbey High School, the family moved to CA where he served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, returning to CO to complete his education at Colorado University. Larry was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church Manhattan Beach since 1958, active in many ministries, the Chabanells young adult group, American Martyrs School and Parish board, Bereavement Funeral Minister, RCIA team, Sacristan, and PreCana retreat team. He was in Professional Hospital Sales with Abbott Labs for 32 years. Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Balagna Bower of Hermosa Beach, CA; son, Justin (Tamra) Bower of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter, Erin Marie (William) Johnson of Oroville, WA; daughter, Anne Marie (Brandt) Shirer of Manhattan Beach, CA; ; daughter Mary Claire (John) Warner of Torrance, CA; brother, Joseph (Patricia) Bower of Orange, CA; and 9 grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob and Luke Bower; Adam, Noah and David Johnson, Brennan and Braden Shirer, Roxie Claire Warner, and many young men and women who loved him and called him "Dad". The service was held at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite American Martyrs Ministry in memory of Larry Bower.
