LaVera was born to Joe and Vera Garcia at St. Vincent's Catholic Hospital in Los Angeles, California along with her twin sister Lillian. She was born the eldest at 7am, Lillian at 7:07am (and she never let me forget it).
She had two master's degrees, one in counseling and the other in business management. Her first job out of college was for Los Angeles County, and then she worked for Pasadena City College. She moved to Santa Barbara where she worked for Ventura City College, then to the University of California at Santa Barbara as a counselor.
She loved to travel, going to Europe on a student tour with Lillian, Alaskan Cruise, to Fiji Islands, Hawaii, and several other cities in the US.
She was very active in Santa Barbara, at the Mission, Catholic Charities, and the Museum. Her love of animals was very well known, always having
a pet or two.
She leaves behind her twin, aunts, uncles, and a
mess of cousins.
