Born in: Manhattan Beach, California
Resided in: Manhattan Beach, California

Kim Marie Komick passed away on February 16, 2022, her 61st birthday. She was at home surrounded by loved ones when she was released from her pain of pancreatic cancer. She was born February 16, 1961 in Manhattan Beach, California, the first daughter of Ken Komick and Diane Wildfang, and the eldest sister to Kevin, Kara, and Kirk Komick.

Kim graduated from Mira Costa High School in 1978 and then attended the University of Southern California. She went on to start her own construction company, KKC Development, where she built beautiful homes and businesses that will forever leave her mark on the South Bay. She was so loved by her employees, coworkers, and clients.

Everyone who knew Kim knew how full of life and energy she was. She had so many friends, all of whom she loved genuinely and uniquely. In her younger years, she could be found playing volleyball on the beach and frequenting local establishments like Shellback and Ercoles. She excelled in sports, whether it was snowboarding in Mammoth or waterskiing in Lake Havasu. As she got older, she fell in love with surfing and travel. Kim sought out adventure and good waves around the world; Costa Rica, New Zealand, India, just to name a few.

Kim also had a lifelong love for music and attended many concerts and festivals throughout her life, including the private concerts provided by her loving partner and guitarist, Mike Longacre. Kim will always be a South Bay legend.

Her biggest joy in life was her children. She was parent, confidant, and best friend to daughter, Emma Huchel, 26, of Hermosa Beach, and son, Andy Huchel, 24, of Boise, Idaho. Her beloved children, parents, and siblings all survive her.

A service will take place at American Martyrs Church on March 16, 2022 at 2:00pm. A celebration of life will be held at the beach by Marine Street in Manhattan Beach on March 19, 2022, weather permitting. All who loved her are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Surfrider Foundation to help protect the oceans she loved so much.
