April 15, 1965 ~ April 26, 2021
Born in: Normandy, Missouri
Resided in: Torrance, California
On Monday, April 26, 2021, Karrie Lynn Wood, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 56. She spent the prior nine months fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Karrie was born on April 15, 1965 in Normandy, Missouri to Ben and Karla Buckner. She lived a short time in Illinois, but moved to California with her mother and brother when she was seven years old – first to Pico Rivera but ultimately settling in the South Bay. She was married to Jim Wood for 33 years. She worked in the aerospace industry, but retired when her youngest son, Taylor, was born to focus on raising him due to his significant disability.
Karrie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lived the gospel of Jesus Christ, serving in many callings. She had a great gift to be able to connect with people, but her biggest impact was with serving the youth. She was loving, compassionate, selfless, authentic and a great listener. She knew how to make someone feel loved and accepted, helping others to recognize their own worth. She took people as they were and left them better than when they came.
She was also a great cook, quick, a little sassy and always smiling. She loved crafts and created quilts and blankets by the dozen for everyone.
Karrie was preceded in death by her mother. She is survived by her husband Jim, her three sons, Kevin, Christopher and Taylor, her siblings, Kris, Ronnie, Jarrod, Kurt, Kelle and Kyle, her three grandchildren, Nathan, Clara and Andrew and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2000 W. Artesia Blvd, Torrance at 11:00 a.m. It will also be broadcast via YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bCjCUsRuU4 .
