Julia Catherine Stevens, age 98 years, of Redondo Beach, California, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2014, at her residence. She was born Julia Catherine Weber on July 7, 1915 in Rock Island, Illinois, the first child of Phillip Weber and Catherine Connelly Weber. Julia married Hollis O. Stevens of Davenport, Iowa on December 28, 1941. She was an accountant at Royal Neighbors, Rock Island, Illinois, a homemaker, and mother of six (6) children. The family resided in Rock Island, IL; Davenport, IA; Memphis, TN; Kansas . MO; and Newport, MI. Julia enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, playing cards, crocheting and needlepoint. She was a resident of Redondo Beach since 1997. She was an active member of American Martyrs Church, in Manhattan Beach, a member of the Altar Society, and a long time member of The Legion of Mary. She is survived by son Jeffrey H. Stevens and his wife Kelly of Anderson, SC; son Gregory P. Stevens of St. Louis , MO; daughter Mary C. Stevens, with whom she resided, in Redondo Beach; daughter Marcia Stevens Anway and her husband Patrick of Fairlawn, OH; son John M. Stevens and his wife Lauren of Nipomo, CA; fifteen (15) grandchildren; and eighteen (18) great-grandchildren. Julia was predeceased by her husband Hollis in 1976, her daughter Julie Ann Stevens Lynch in 2012; and her brother John Phillip Weber. The vigil, followed by a Rosary, will be held on Thursday evening June 5, 5:00-9:00 pm, at White and Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach. A Celebration of Life Mass will be on Friday June 6 at 12:00 pm at American Martyrs Church, Manhattan Beach.
