March 26, 1937 ~ August 2, 2019
Joshua Ivan Alvarez, 82, of Redondo Beach, California passed away in his sleep in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on August 2, 2019. He was born March 26, 1937 in El Salvador.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and older brother Mario.
Joshua is survived by his wife Alma of 39 years, his sons Ivan, Joshua and Moses and his daughters Martha, Maritza, Enedina and Karina, his daughters-in-law Cynthia and Kimberly, and sons-in-law Freddy Hernandez, Virgil R. Howard, Jose Duran, and his 14 grandchildren Dillon, Caleb, Sarah, Jonathan, Victoria, Krista, Rafael, Isaac, Anna, Lily, Erica, Alyssa, Joei and Sofia.
Joshua was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and received his first treatment on June 10, 2015 till September 2018. He decided to end chemo and enjoy his time with his family and friends.
Joshua came to America for a better life in 1967. He got a job as a machinist with Aeroquip for several years. He then worked as a bus driver at MTA for over 17 years. He retired in 2002. He was a true advocate on healthy eating and exercising. Always encouraging his family and friends to be active and eat healthy. Joshua always had jokes and was so kind and friendly. He was always there to help his children, relatives and friends. He spent his free time going on walks and riding the bus and metro. He enjoyed going to eat at his favorite restaurant “Cero Verde”.
Joshua was our Superman, Mentor, Pillar, Rock and most of all the Patriarch of our family.
