Josephine S. Young, age 77, wife of Robert C. Young, died at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, February 29, 2008, following a four year battle with Alzheimer's.
She was born August 11, 1930, in New York City. The only child of Florence Shafir and Joseph Shafir. Jose, as she liked to be called, attended high school in Kansas City and graduated from the University
of Chicago in 1950.
She married Richard Jenney on November 24th 1952. Josephine and Richard lived in the Hyde Park area of Chicago and had three Children: David, born in 1954, Karen, born in 1956, and Tom born in 1959. Josephine and Richard were divorced in 1970.
Jose met Bob Young on a summer vacation in Guatemala. It was love at first vacation. They were married in June of 1973 and settled in Gardena, California. They were married for 34 years.
Jose enjoyed playing tennis, puzzles of all kinds, especially crossword, gardening, sewing, singing and playing the guitar. Her real passion was cooking and baking as she was known as the Gardena Gourmet in a column she wrote for the Gardena Valley News. She also loved doing volunteer work at the Gardena Public Library.
Josephine is survived by her husband, Bob, her son David Jenney; her daughter Karen Jenney; her son and his wife; Tom and Helen Jenney; two grandchildren, Allison and Nicholas Jenney; and her step-daughter
There will be no funeral services for Josephine. The children plan a small private ceremony to commemorate her life.
