Longtime Torrance resident Josephine Garcia born May 28, 1928, passed away on August 20, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved daughter, sister and aunt, Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Ysabel and Julia Garcia, her sisters Herminia and Angelita and brothers Raymond and Ysabel Jr. Josephine was the eldest of fourteen siblings who loved her dearly. She is survived by her sisters Rose Figueroa, Ernie Gasset, Lupe Manley, Rachel Torres and Margaret Jungles and her brothers Peter, Jesse, Richard and Joe Garcia as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine gave countless hours of support to Harbor LITES LAPD and in September of 1990 she was co-founder with Bill Horst of the Harbor Gateway/Torrance Outreach (Food Bank). She noticed a need in the community and worked hard to make sure that low-income families received much needed food. For over twenty years, Josephine also volunteered for the Torrance Rose Float Association where she enjoyed decorating the many award winning floats. Our sister and Tia loved her family, watching good movies, reading, family trips to Big Bear and going to Nascar races. She especially enjoyed going to the casino, she loved those penny slots. She was a talented florist and at one time owned her own flower shop. Thank you for adopting me as your Godson. Every Easter you made sure there was a basket for me. You showed me how to ‘step up’ with love. You will be missed, but now when I talk to Tia Ermie it will be Tia Jo and Tia Ermie like it used to be.
