Josephine Alba

Josephine Alba August 22, 1923 - February 23, 2014 A 90 year resident of Redondo Beach, she passed away peacefully in her home. Josephine is survived by her loving children, Marie Ramirez (Joe), Yolanda Mendez (Joe), Ermelinda Lomeli (Henry), Annie Arquette (Frank); Mario Alba (Lucy), Richard Alba, (Delores); 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and siblings Raymond Gomez, Louisa Ruiz, and Lupe Salcedo. She is preceded in death by her parents Carmen Avila Gomez and Luciano Barba; brothers Gilbert Gomez and Art Gomez. She graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1943. Josephine worked for the Redondo School District for 22 years. She was a caring bilingual teacher's aide. She lived her whole life dedicated to her family. She enjoyed sewing and making porcelain dolls. Most of all, being around her family made her the happiest. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Wednesday March 5, 2014 from 5 until 9pm with the Vigil Service beginning at 7pm. The Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Redondo Beach on Thursday March 6 at 10am. Burial will follow at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach. The reception will then be held at Rice's Lighthouse Reception Room until 4pm.
