John York Hoffman (Nov. 3, 1925- Sep. 9, 2011) Loving husband, father and grandfather, Jack Hoffman, passed away surrounded by his family on September 9, 2011 at his home in El Segundo. Born Nov. 3, 1925 in Oakland, Calif., Jack proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He married Dorothy Flaherty on Sep. 13, 1947 and went on to father nine children. After 45 years of serving the local community, he retired from the insurance industry. His greatest joy in life was his family and volunteering—primarily in the pro-life movement. He was also involved in ministering to prisoners and a member of the Legion of Mary. He spent much of his free time engaged in a variety of hobbies, including gardening, camping and running on the beach. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his nine children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The visitation will be held at McCormick Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Tuesday, September 13th from 3:00 to 5:00pm followed by the Rosary at 7:30pm at St. Anthony's Church. The Mass will be Wednesday, September 14th at 10:00am at the church.   1. I have always admired Mr. Hoffman … he has showed me how to live my life as a strong Catholic and raise a family in a faithful way. Every time I walked away from a conversation with Mr. Hoffman, I walked away a better person for the wisdom he shared in such a gentle and well-spoken way. I will miss seeing you walking around the streets of El Segundo Mr. Hoffman but am so blessed to have the family that you raised and inspired in my life.
