Rexroad, John Jesse John Jesse Rexroad, a 47 year resident of Redondo Beach, California, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 9 at the age of 74. He was born on October 21, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to loving parents, John Gaylord and Dorothy Alberta Rexroad. In 1940, his family, which included sisters, Helene Mae (Barker) and Beverly Jean (Benjamin) moved to Crystal Springs, Florida where he helped run the family general store, Rexroad's Corner. As a youngster, he enjoyed hunting, riding gators, and fixing cars. His family relocated to Inglewood, California in 1951, and he graduated from Inglewood High School in 1955. He married the woman of his dreams, Peggy Ann Miller, on September 8, 1956 and had two beautiful children, John Edward and Debra Helen (Mason). He worked for Oroweat for 31 years, retiring his bread route in December, 1993. His biggest smiles were achieved when admiring classic cars, woodworking in the garage, and talking about his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sister and brother-in-law, Helene and Larry Barker; son and daughter-in-law, John and Teri Rexroad; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Michael Mason; four grandchildren, Sarah Rexroad, Jamie, Amanda, and Laura Mason; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and buddies. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Rice Mortuary, located at 5310 Torrance Boulevard, reception to follow.

  1. John was very special to my wife Sherree and I and he will be missed. John was very creative and as a craftsman built many benches and creative pieces which were sold from our store. John always made it a habit to stop by when he was in the area. John will be remembered by many as a dear friend but his creative pieces will live on.
