John Henry Gejer, a 70 year resident of the South Bay passed away in his home in Hawthorne on Thursday, December 8, 2011. Born in Brooklyn he grew up in Queens, New York. He was president of his senior class at New York City's Textile High School (graduated January 1937). He started working at North American Aviation in March 1942. In April 1943 he joined the Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Hunt in the South Pacific. When the war was over he returned to North American Aviation (Rockwell International and now part of Boeing) where he continued until his retirement in January 1977. In November 1977 he became a life member of the Death Valley '49ers. He was 92 when he died. John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Gejer of Hawthorne, CA; son John F. (Barbara) Gejer of Torrance, CA; their three daughters, Maria Dawn (Warwick), her daughter Emily Cooper and their son Jonathon Reid, Melinda Mae Gejer and Ambre Nowell Gejer; son Robert D. Gejer of Redondo Beach, CA; and sister Gladys Lionbarger of Fullerton, CA. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery. No services will be held. Rest in peace beloved, until we meet again.
