Joe Leroy Gutierrez, a 40 year resident of Hawthorne, was 59 years young when he passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, California. Shortly after his birth in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Joe's immediate family relocated to California where he spent the remainder of his fruitful life. He entered the military during the Vietnam era and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hawthorne. If you met Joe for one second, then you knew a man who had the natural ability to encourage a cheerful and happy mood to all who had the pleasure of his company. Career notes: provided skilled automotive service to his community. Personal interests: spending time with family, friends, & working on motor vehicles of all types. Hobbies: playing chess, building model cars, & watching all his favorite Legal Court TV programs. Civic activities: Helped anyone and everyone in need! Passions: Socializing with friends and relatives. Fan of Dad, Mom, and siblings. He is survived by: Daughter, Jo Ann Gutierrez, Grandson, Cesar Gutierrez, Granddaughter, Kelise Gutierrez, Sisters: Linda (Vincent) Pino and Elizabeth (Leandro) Becerra, Brothers: Frank (Marylou) Gutierrez, Eugene Gutierrez and Jerry (Olga) Gutierrez, Nephews: Johnny Gutierrez and Ruben Gutierrez , Niece Veronica Gutierrez along with fifteen other nieces and nephews and an abundance of great nieces and great nephews. Joe joins his family members in resting: Father, Rumaldo Gutierrez Jr., Mother, Florence Gutierrez, and Brother Arthur Gutierrez. Please join the family & friends in celebrating the life of Joe Leroy Gutierrez at the McCormick Hawthorne Chapel on Monday, January 8, 2007 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. The funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross' Large Mausoleum Chapel on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
