Joan Marie Porter June 24, 1933 – January 8, 2012 Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joan Marie Porter entered Heaven on January 8, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was married for 58 years to John Porter. Joan and John met in October 1952 at a youth group sponsored by St. John's Catholic Church in Los Angeles and were married on August 1, 1953. Joan was born and raised in Southern California and attended local schools. She was in the first class of nurses to graduate from El Camino College. Joan spent many years tenderly caring for patients in various South Bay hospitals. Many friends touched her life and countless hours were spent with them at American Martyrs evening Mass, on the golf course and across the bridge table. Survivors include husband John Porter; children, John (Deborah) Porter, Jenny (Steve) Hurdle, Colleen Congelliere, Kathy (Jeff) Hale, and Steve (Sandy) Porter; grandchildren, Dash, Hunter, Steve, Christine, Mathew, Cara, Jacy, Michael, Erica, Jason, Keeley, Josh, Ashley, Krista, Matt, Brianna; great grandson, Tyler; and sisters: Ann, Patricia, Mary and Jill. Services will be held Saturday, January 14, 10:00 a.m. at American Martyrs Church, 624 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA. A Rosary will be held prior to the Mass at 9:30 am at American Martyrs Church. Visitation will be held Friday, January 13, 4 pm until 8 pm. at White and Day Mortuary, 3215 S. Sepulveda, Manhattan Beach, CA.
