Jay A. Shors Jay Shors, a native son of Beemer, Nebraska born in 1920, passed away at home after a long illness on December 27, 2007. He had made California his home since 1967. His favorite saying was "once you live within five miles of the Pacific Ocean, you will never leave it." Such was the case for Jay who lived in Torrance and is survived by his wife Loretta June, his son Jay, his daughters Jennifer and Janine, and his granddaughter Emma. Jay spent his entire career working in the glass manufacturing industry in Indiana, Ohio, and California. He loved his work, and relished the opportunities for travel while on the job to Holland, Nigeria, and Guatemala among other locations. Prior to his retirement, Jay served as Director for Quality Control for Glass Containers Corporation in Fullerton. Following his retirement in 1985, Jay enjoyed every minute of his free time at home. He was an avid gardener and loved to be outdoors in the sunshine whenever possible. Jay also loved wood-working, building furniture and repairing other items around the house. Jay was also an arm-chair scholar who loved to read historical accounts and political essays. He took daily walks to Henderson Public Library in Torrance, and was well known by the local librarians as a regular patron of the library. Jay's wishes were to be cremated and buried at sea with a private memorial for family. In memory of Jay, the Shors family has set up a donation fund for the Henderson Public Library. Donations should be sent in lieu of flowers to: Torrance Public Library Foundation (TPLF) Donations in Memoriam of Jay Shors 3301 Torrance Boulevard Torrance, CA 90503
