Jane D. Byk, a longtime Torrance resident, died on June 18 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was 82. Jane was a third generation Californian - a daughter of Victor E. Benstead, a former Torrance councilman. Jane was born and lived 80 years in Torrance, a graduate of St James Elementary School and Torrance High School. During her breaks as a homemaker, she worked in the payroll and property accounting departments at the Long Beach Shipyards and Northrop Corporation. She was a long time member of Nativity Catholic Church. Jane was predeceased by her husband Alfred J. Byk, and survived by a daughter; Linda J. Wells, of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son: Bradley C. Byk, of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. A rosary will be held at White and Day Colonial Chapel Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 6:30PM and Funeral Mass Friday, June 23, 2006 at 12 noon at Nativity Catholic Church, Torrance with committal in Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, CA
