James Richard Plant James "Jim" Richard Plant passed away on July 26, 2013. He is survived by his sons Greg, Ryan, Neil and Todd; and brothers Dave and Tom. Jim was born in Michigan on January 16, 1939. He served in the US Air Force as an instructor preparing flight crews for the physiological stresses of high-altitude flight. He graduated from Auburn University in 1967 and moved to southern California soon after. He started his business, JD Manufacturing, in 1979. He enjoyed photography, cooking, golfing, and watching sports, especially Auburn football and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jim was kind-hearted, generous, willing to help those in need, and always had a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life will take place at the JD Manufacturing shop on Sunday, August 25th from 2 to 5 PM. The shop is located at 675 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice or plant a tree in his memory.

  1. Ran across this belatedly – this is very sad news. I’ve done business with him for about 20 years now, off and on. I am going to miss terribly coming down to his shop to pick up my latest project that he brought to life, whether the hilt for a sword or a gold ring. I remember the first time I brought a project up to his shop, which at that time was only a block or so from the apartment where I was living in H.B. – amazing to have the wax shapes I brought up turned into bronze pieces for the sword hilt I was working on.
    I am very truly going to miss you, James. R.I.P.
