James Norman McFarland January 22, 1935-November 22, 2009 Jim was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Gail Abner McFarland and Mayme Marie McFarland. He passed away peacefully last Sunday evening after a long illness. Jim was an entrepreneur who worked a variety of jobs supporting his large family. He was also the founder and owner of National Environmental. NE was a national company that provided public safety training to fire, police and public utility companies. During the Korean conflict, Jim proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid, now a museum anchored in the New York Harbor. Jim was a successful fundraiser for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, raising over one million dollars in the course of the campaign. He also enjoyed many years as a Scoutmaster for Troop 118 in the Thunderbird District of Los Angeles out of St. John the Evangelist Parochial School. He was a member of local Elks Lodge 2050 in Playa del Rey and served as their Chairman of Trustees. Beloved father of James, Mary Jean, Charlotte, Kevin, Kathleen and Frank, Mike, and Scott. Dearest brother to sister Charlotte. Preceded in death in 1989 by son Brian, in 2000 by grandson Christopher and in 2004 by sister Joanne. His humor and antics will be deeply missed by twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim is also survived by Mary and Mary.
