James
James Hirst, age 59, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance, California. He was born July 7, 1960 in Pensacola, Florida to Donald and Marylin Hirst. He worked for the Department of Homeland Security in Salt Lake City, Utah.. He was a devoted father, uncle, son, and brother, and was the light of his family. He was an avid traveler and photographer, making memories wherever he went. He loved the Japanese culture and was fluent in Japanese, traveling to every province and living in Japan for over 15 years. He married a Japanese woman, Atsuko Kumazawa Hirst in 1984 and welcomed his daughter, Jennifer, on August 21, 1985. His daughter was the center of his life, and he always did everything he could for her, including being a Girl Scout leader, caring for her many pets, and taking her on trips around the world. He was often surrounded by laughter, keeping things light with his humor and bringing joy to those around him. He will be deeply missed by by his family and all those who knew him. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Hirst, his niece Anna Hirst, his nephew Joseph Hirst, his sister Helen Hirst, and his brothers Michael and David Hirst. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday December 28, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 22605 Kent Avenue, Torrance, CA 90505. at 11am.

  1. My husband and I worked with James, while at TSA, for many years. I always enjoyed our many conversations. He always spoke highly and often about his daughter, Jennifer.
