Casey, James Edward a 60 year resident of Manhattan Beach, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2006 in Torrance. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jim moved to Sidney, Ohio at the age of 5, where he spent his youth. He attended Ohio State University and received a Medical Technology Degree. He served in the Army Medical Corp and relocated to Torrance Calif after his service duty. Jim married Mary Jane Smith in 1944 and they moved to Manhattan Beach where they raised 3 children. He worked for the American Red Cross, where he retired as Director of the Blood Bank after 35 years. "Pop", as he was affectionately known, will be remembered as the life of the party, entertaining others with his Irish humor and festive piano playing.
He was preceeded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Jane, brother John Casey and sister, Betty Rice. He is survived by his son Patrick (Joanne) Casey of Palm Desert, daughters Mary Kaye (Don) Carpenter and Peggy (Steve) Nisen of Manhattan Beach, granddaughters Lisa Casey, Allison Carpenter, Jamie Nisen, and grandsons Matt Carpenter, and Jeff Nisen.
A Mass will be held at American Martyrs Church on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA.. In lieu of flowers donations made be made in his memory to the American Red Cross, 501 Shatto Place, Los Angeles, CA 90020
