James Anthony Ciampa, a 73-year resident of the South Bay and resident of Torrance for almost 50 years, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2007 in Harbor City. Born in Hawthorne, Jim was 73 when he died. Jim worked for over 35 years with the Los Angeles County Road Department, retiring in 1993. He was a long-time parishioner at St. James Catholic Church. He enjoyed carpentry work, restoring his 1964 Chevrolet Impala, calling bingo, cooking, and watching historical documentaries. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Catherine Ciampa of Torrance; son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Michele Ciampa of Pasadena; daughter, Candice Ciampa of Lomita; granddaughter Audrey Ciampa and grandson Vincent Ciampa of Pasadena. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Rice Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, December 4, from 4-8pm, with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
