October 16th, 1918 - March 10th, 2010 Irene Savedra, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great -great grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning March 10th at 6:50 a.m. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her own home at 91 years of age; listening to her eldest daughter reading Psalm 63 to her. Irene was born in Whittier, CA October 16, 1918, and was a lifetime resident of the South Bay y. She has lived in her current home on 6th Street in Hermosa Beach that her husband built for the past 57 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Juan Jose Savedra who together with love and faithfulness raised their 7 children. Irene is survived by her daughter, Herminda Banda-Redondo Beach; Irene Paine(Bernie) - Torrance; Connie Parades (Rudy)- Tucson, AZ; Sally Marshall (Norm) -Redondo Beach; son, Jose (Jay) Manuel Savedra (Carol) -Lake Forest; Lorenzo Savedra -Anaheim; and daughter, Grace Savedra -Sun City; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; 2surviving sisters, Jenny Ortega- Torrance; and Porfida Banda -Torrance. Irene loved her family, and left a legacy of love of all things family that passed on to her future generations. She was a wonderful keeper of the home, loved to cook for others, work in her garden, crochet, shop at the "Segundas" (second hand stores) and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband when he was alive. Irene as a lifetime member of the Altar & Rosary Society; Eucharistic minister to those unable to come to church and take communion; along with many other services to her church. Her family fondly remembers the many days of preparing menudo made and served after church on Sunday mornings. Irene loved her church , it was like a second home, and the only church she has known since she was a little girl. Domingo Moreno, her father, was one of the founding fathers of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Irene was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all her family and friends so blessed to be part of her life. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 15th at Rice mortuary in Torrance, and the viewing is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 16th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Pacific Crest Cemetery in Redondo Beach.

  3. My Aunt Irene will truly be missed, she was a great lady, I was very happy to be a part of the Moreno family thru my dad (Johnny), Aunt Irene was a woman that smiled and was always busy, I remember her most at the reunions always making sure people ate, and most all the sisters talking.
