Irene Ann Bungarden

irene bungarden
Irene Bungarden, a resident of Torrance, CA of over 50 years peacefully departed this life on October 21, 2008. She was born in Eveleth, Minnesota in 1930 and moved to California with her family. She was trained as a registered nurse at St. Vincent's School Nursing and it was during this time that she met her future husband, Richard. They exchanged letters throughout the time he was in the United States Marine Corps serving in Korea during the war. Upon his return, they were engaged and were married in May 1954. They initially moved to San Pablo, California where they began their family. In 1958 they moved to Torrance and the home they would live and raise their family in. Irene was the glue that kept the family close. While it was a joy to see her children grow and start their own families, her greatest joy were her grandchildren, Nicole Lee, William and Kathryn Bungarden, Matthew Bungarden, Rachel, Adam and Andrew Bungarden. Her smile was always the widest and her eyes always the brightest when her grandchildren were around. The sound of her grandchildren's voices and laughter in her house was a regular source of happiness and fulfillment. Irene was preceded to heaven by her Daughter Mary Ann. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Richard and her children, son John and his wife Caterina; daughter Jean; son Robert and his wife Sandra; son Richard and his wife Lisa; and son-in-law Morris, husband of Mary Ann. A visitation will be held at McCormick Mortuary, Redondo Beach, 4:00 to 8:00 pm, October 23, 2008. A funeral mass will be held at St James Catholic Church, Redondo Beach, California on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:00 am with internment on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Irene's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005 (800) 533-CURE (2873)
