Huey attended schools in the Compton Unified School District and graduated from Compton High School in 1958. After graduating from high school, he began working construction with Huey Sr. Huey later got a job working for the Los Angeles Division of Todd Shipyards, where he worked as a welder. His tenure at Todd lasted for more than 30 years, before retiring in the 1980's. Huey met Mildred Bell who became his lifelong love. Together the two had daughter, Inger Bell (1966), and son Huey Bell III (1975). Huey was an amazing piano player who loved music and loved to sing. In his earlier years he was a member of multiple doo wop groups, one of which included his brother, Louis, his cousin, Herbert Bell, as well a few of his childhood friends. He was also an avid movie goer. At one point in his life, Huey was going to the movie theater weekly to see newly released blockbusters. On December 21, 2019 Huey was called home. He is survived by his daughter, Inger Bell; grandsons, Robert Jackson and Randy Jackson as well as two nieces and several cousins. Family members who preceded him in death are his parents: Huey Sr. (1991) and Dorothy (2003); his brother, Louis (2002); his son, Huey III (2008); and his lifelong love Mildred (2015).
