ENSOM, HERBERT JAMES passed away January 14, 2009. Herb was born January 26, 1923 in Toronto, Canada to his parents Henry William "Will" Ensom and Sara (Corcoran) Ensom and he would have turned 86 years old this month. He served in the Canadian Army Air Force in World War II. He and the love of his life Iola came here from Canada 56 years ago. Herb owned Regal Industries, which he retired from at the age of 80, and which he began by building his first machine in his garage while working two other jobs to support his family. Herb worked for Benchmaster prior to starting his own company. Herb adored, cherished and loved his wife Iola and they were happily married for 63 years. Their love set the bar high for all of us to try to attain in this life. Herb was self-sacrificing, generous, smart, funny and an extremely hard working man. Gardening was his hobby. He grew the best homegrown tomatoes and supplied his loved ones and neighbors with vegetables all year round. Herb always had a joke and a smile for everyone he came in contact with. Everyone that knew him loved him. He was an amazing grandfather, father and dedicated, adoring husband. Herb is survived by his wife/soul mate/love of his life and best friend Iola Ensom; his sister Florence Webster, his son Gerald Ensom, a stellar man who was there for him every step of the way; his son Ronald Ensom, his daughters: Sandy Dupape (and Rick), Beverlie Miller (and Chris), his grandchildren Erin Dupape, Chad Dupape, Michael Munch Miller, and Garrett Miller. We want to thank all of the doctors, nurses and health care professionals that have lovingly been there over that last few years when he suffered from a lung disease that kept him on oxygen 24/7 and sent him to the hospital several times. He was in great spirits the day he passed unexpectedly during a procedure to put a stint in his heart. Please come by to celebrate the life of the best man we could ever hope to know. A viewing will be held Friday, January 23rd from 5pm to 8pm and Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 3:00PM. Location: McCormick Mortuary at 1998 S. Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach. In Lieu of Flowers donations can be made to: The American Heart or The American Lung Association.
