Yano, Henry Susumu a 34-year resident of, Torrance, CA passed away on Friday, July, 11, 2008 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center after a courageous battle with a long illness. Henry was born on October 22, 1940 in San Francisco, CA. He was later interned with his family at the Topaz War Relocation Center in Utah during World War II. Henry was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Arizona State University. He moved to California to pursue a career in engineering in the aerospace and defense industry. In 1968, he began a 33-year career as a mechanical engineer with Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems Company. He was a dedicated engineer and received numerous awards throughout his career, but was very modest about his achievements. He was proud of being part of the team that designed the L-1011 commercial aircraft. A devoted family man, Henry was active in his children's endeavors, including sports, family programs and philanthropic activities. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe with his family and friends and ensued his love of reading by becoming a volunteer at the Torrance Public Library. Throughout his life he shared his love of fishing in the Mammoth Lakes area with family and friends. Every May he looked forward to fishing's opening day at Crowley Lake. Henry is survived by his wife of 38 years Corinne Yano; daughter Tricia Yano of Los Angeles, CA; son Brian Yano of New York, NY; uncles Tom and Margie Okuma and Sam and Hideko Okuma of Arizona, George and Asaye Yano and Warren and Misao Yano of Northern CA; and aunt Hisaye Kuge of Oxnard, CA; cousin Lee and Sue Moribe of San Diego, CA, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Hiromu Yano, mother Yoshie Yano, brothers Tom and Chester Yano, uncles Arthur and Rose "Kiku" Yano, Lee and Kiyo Yano, Frank Yano and aunts Chieno Moribe and Mary Kamiya. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday July 19, 2008 from 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. Memorial Services will begin at 11:30 AM with a reception to follow at the mortuary.
