Henry
Henry Anthony Ortega, an 11-year resident of, Torrance, CA passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Henry was born on May 21, 1997 in Los Angeles, CA. He had a love and passion for skateboarding and playing video games, especially with his friends. He could often be seen with his friends playing his favorite games of Super Smash Bro.s Brawl and the Legend of Zelda. Henry also had a love of baseball, swimming, science and aircraft. So much so, that he was able to fly a plane above the city. His interest of skateboarding quickly developed into a true passion. His agility and balance quickly allowed him to hone his skills and master several tricks. He met Brian Sumner and Tony Hawk who visited him at his home. He received many autographed skateboards and photographs. Some pictures of Henry were also posted on the Tony Hawk website, Birdhouse. Most recently he was the personal guest of the Galaxy and Chivas Teams at a recent home game and was presented with a signed game ball and jerseys. His family was also given the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios and Gator Land in Florida as well as Disneyland and Lego Land locally. While at school, Henry stood out among his peers. His gentle personality and easy going nature attracted and inspired his classmates. Henry took his studies very serious. He was fascinated with science and art. He was proud of his Native American heritage and often brought handmade objects to share with his classmates. Henry had a love for reading and especially enjoyed Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia. Henry enjoyed eating with family. He liked asada tacos, pizza, milk, ice cream and definitely had a sweet tooth. His favorite restaurants were Hometown Buffet and Outback Steakhouse. Remembering Henry also means seeing him with his friends who were a constant presence. After school, during school, anytime where Henry was, you were sure to find a group of boys. He had a warm smile and a contagious laugh. He, his friends and his brother Jeremy, spent their time playing video games, hanging out at home challenging each other to a game of Rock Band featuring Henry on vocals. They spent the night on occasion with movies, games, pizza party and very little sleep. His favorite movies were Robots and Hoodwinked. Ben 10 was a favorite show. He was a fan of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, the Dodgers, Angels, Green Day, White Stripes, The Naked Brothers Band and skateboarders Brian Sumner and Tony Hawk. His love of the Arts also included singing, playing his guitar and drawing. Henry is survived by his parents, Henry and Wendy; his brother Jeremy, grandparents, uncles, aunts and many cousins. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday July 24, 2008 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA. Vigil Services will begin at 7:00 PM at the Rice Mortuary Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be on July 25, 2008 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, 21900 S. Main St., Carson, CA with Interment following at Green Hills Memorial Park.
