Haywood Shelton, age 81, of Torrance, California died June 18, 2010. Born in La Jolla, California, he was the son of Willis H.P. Shelton and Ellen Arey Shelton. In 1952, he married Nadyne Shelton. After attending Cal Berkeley and MIT, Haywood worked at TRW as a Physicist until his retirement. He was probably best known for his scientific mind and use of logic; no problem was too small to apply the principles of physics to. Around the house and neighborhood he could improvise a solution to anything. He was a regular "McGyver." His favorite saying was "you have to understand the physics involved." He leaves behind Nadyne, his wife of 58 years; and four children, Noel (Sandy), Diane (John), Nancy and Neal; and four grandchildren, Rodney (Jennifer), Christopher, Bailey and Nina; and one great-grandchild, Jordan. He also leaves two brothers, Bill and Feets (Dixie). He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, David. His example of steadfastness, integrity, ingenuity and love will be missed by all the lives he touched. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 2pm at McCormick Mortuary, 1998 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 (310) 792-7580.
