Harry Lawrence Johnson Jr. born December 15, 1921 in Redondo Beach, CA died November 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by parents Harry Lawrence Johnson Sr. and Gertrude Ida Hermanson; Marjorie (wife who passed 15 months ago); sister Cherie; and brother Robert. He is survived by brothers John and Ed (wife Juanita); sons Jim (wife Dana) and Don Johnson; grandchildren Stacey and Eric; and great-grandsons Joshua and Tanner. Harry, a rare second generation Californian, was a lifelong resident of Redondo Beach. He met and married Marjorie Foote November 7, 1943 and after leaving the Army Air Corps began his long career in the construction and marine industries. In 1946 he founded his first companies H&L Cabinet and H.L. Johnson Construction and built many homes in Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills and commercial buildings in Hawthorne and Inglewood. In the later 1950's and 1960's he launched H&L Marine Woodwork with sons Jim and Don apprenticing. H&L Marine grew to become the world's largest manufacturer of woodwork for sailboats (in excess of 80, 000 vessels) with a factory in Rancho Dominguez. In the 1990's H&L expanded into architectural woodwork providing interiors for luxury homes. Harry worked daily designing and supervising until ending his 66 year working life just two weeks before his passing. Harry and his wife Marjorie enjoyed their off time with a multitude of friends near their second home in Arrowhead. Their hard work, generosity, and hospitality were the hallmark of this couple who were truly "the greatest generation". Harry will be sorely missed. Memorial is at 10 AM Saturday November 10th at Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach followed by a brief graveside service. Condolences/flowers may be sent to Pacific Crest, 2701 W 182nd St., Redondo Beach, CA 90278.
