Harold Eggum was born Dec 30, 1918 in Great Falls, Montana, the third child of Jens and Inga Eggum. A few years later, his family moved to Los Angeles where he grew to adulthood. He was intelligent and did well in school, eventually becoming an electrical engineer designing and drafting plans at Douglas Aircraft. He married his high school sweetheart, Eleanore and lived in Torrance for many years with his wife and 3 children. Over the years, he became skilled at just about any project- pouring concrete, electrical wiring, plumbing, landscaping and woodworking. He did most of the work of building 3 houses during his life. He enjoyed gardening, reading, puzzles of any kind and chess. He also enjoyed classical music and fishing whether from a pier, a fishing barge or on a lake. Looking back at his life, one can't help but be impressed with his perseverance, hard work and efforts for the well-being of his family, seeing to it that his children were educated and had a good start in life. He died Feb 19, 2008 at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his sisters Margaret and Gladys. Survivors include his brother John, his son Gordon, his daughters Kathy and Chris and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
