Gregory Alan Mayfield, "Greg", an 8 year resident of Hermosa Beach, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013. Greg was born on June 18, 1965 in Janesville, WI. Greg was a huge Green Bay Packer fan, never forgetting his roots. Greg graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and emphasis in Finance. Greg worked hard and dedicated himself to his career and he ultimately become a very successful business owner/entrepreneur. Greg donated to many charitable organizations and volunteered to coach children's flag football and baseball teams. Greg was very much a family man who loved his mother deeply and with her passing, Greg took on even a stronger role as a father. The brightest stars of Greg's accomplishments are his children, whom he loved dearly. Surviving Greg are his three children, Madison, Zach, and Ryan, of Redondo Beach, CA; their mother, Patricia Hogan; his brothers, Stephan (Dawn) of Janesville, WI and Lester (Patty) of Roscoe, IL, and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Melvin (Gene) Mayfield; his brother, Rodney; and his nephew, Jacob. A gathering of family and friends will be held at White & Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Friday November 15, 2013 from 11am to noon, with a Service beginning at 12pm. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Santa Monica or the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A growing leaf, green in color, has fallen prematurely. It has separated from the tree of life and landed in a pool of water, of many tears. It is a dark moment. A human tear lingers on the freshly fallen leaf…before it turns brown. Fallen. Drifting aimlessly On a sea of grief and pain The leaf cradles a teardrop. Offers refuge. Embodies hope. Just as winter awakens spring, Our deepest sorrow harbors the seed of hope renewed. By Susan Ring

  1. Greg was our neighbor at 6th and the Strand in Hermosa Beach and a good neighbor at that. Greg and I had many social and business meetings and introduced me to his good friend Joel. 6. Very shocked and saddened by the death of “The Rock” Greg Mayfield. I mentored him as a new rookie sales rep at UNUM in 1990 and became friends in the time we worked together. Greg was a good natured and extremely ambitious guy. We played on the LA Unum flag football team together and I’ll always remember his fierce competitive nature. We also competed as sales reps and then as sales managers when Greg was with Fortis/Assurant and I with The Standard. Enjoyed the years I knew Greg and will always remember him as a very good sales rep, leader, friend and family man. We share the same Wisconsin roots as well as a love for the Green Bay Packers.

God rest your soul old friend!

  7. So saddened to learn of my uncles passing. My heart goes out to Gregs children as I know how difficult this is for them. Greg was a great guy and loved his family dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this sad time.

  9. I am saddened to hear that we have lost Greg. I would stop by the house on Austin road because Tigger would be running all over:) on my way to ride my horse. We Ice skated together, worked out together, played sports together and buried our closest friends together. We even went to Whitewater together. A sweet and steady soul has gone on. We all know they take Angels early and Greg was one. My heart is with all the family and friends who loved him so.
    Sincerely, Teresa Stuka – Kouimelis

  10. The years go by so fast. It has hurt so much to see so many of this family gone. This was my family and it breaks my heart to know that our youngest, little Greg has left us so early. Love to Steve and Les, I know you both suffered so much loss. Connie Mayfield-Southam
