Gladys Bennett, a 53 year resident of Torrance passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010 in Torrance. Gladys was born in Alligator, Mississippi and was 83 when she died. Gladys was a member of Journey of Faith Church in Manhattan Beach, a former teacher, principal and the Administrator at Community Baptist School. Gladys received a Bachelor's Degree in English from Delta State University, taught at Acacia Day School in Hawthorne and founded The Community Baptist School in Manhattan Beach which flourished under her administration and for many years after her official retirement. Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who dedicated her life to God and her family. Gladys is survived by her Sons, Robert Barry Bennett of Torrance, Brett William Bennett of La Quinta and John Blair Bennett of Torrance; Grandsons Robert J. Bennett, Jacob E. Bennett and Jared C. Bennett; Grandaughter Micah M. Allison; Stepgrandson Joshua Bennett; Stepgrandaughter Angela Bennett, Great Grandaughter Ireland Murie Bennett; Great Grandsons Robert Liam Bennett, Jason D. Allison and Austin J. Allison and her Sisters Almariene Pennington and Louvinia Shillin. She was preceded in death by her husband William Robert Bennett and her parents Willey and William Barrentine.The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the Rice Lighthouse Reception Room until 5:00 P.M. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery.
