Geraldine Wood

Wood, Geraldine - a 45 year resident of Manhattan Beach , passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2001 in Torrance. Born in Salem, WV, Geraldine was 84 when she died. Geraldine and her husband Carter were foster parents to 45 children raising 5 of them as their own. She continued to take on the responsibility for raising foster children until she was 67 years old, including raising several children with physical disabilities. Some of the children lived with them for months, some of them for years. All she ever wanted to do was raise kids and teach them patience and kindess. She and Carter were married for 56 years. She was a kind and gentle woman, loved animals, children and could never see something or someone go hungry. She is survived by Husband, Carter Wood of Manhattan Beach, CA; Daughters, Patty Hall of Santa Barbara, CA, Helen Wood of Manhattan Beach, CA, Yvonne Bowser of Victorville, CA, Mara Alvarez of Barstow, CA and Nannette Chambers of Apple Valley, CA. Viewing will be Thursday, September 6, 2001 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held at Pacific Crest Cemetery, Friday September 7, 2001at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Foster Parents Associations.
