Onak, Gerald Paul
Passed away June 23, 2008 at the age of 55 at his home in Torrance following a hard fought 2 ½ year battle with cancer. He was born February 23, 1953 in Harvey, Illinois. After obtaining his BSEE from the University of Illinois in 1976, Gerry moved to the South Bay. Gerry obtained his MBA from Loyola Marymount soon after. Gerry was a career employee at TRW/Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach contributing to the RF design and development of some of our nation's most sophisticated satellite payloads. Gerry will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of his family, cooking, basketball, the ocean, gardening, and anything home repair. He was the rock of our family. While we miss him so much, we are truly thankful he is now pain-free in the arms of our Lord. Gerry is survived by his wife, Lynne Ann Onak; his children Jonathan Paul Onak of San Antonio, TX, Michael Charles Onak of Torrance, and Melissa Ann Onak of Torrance; his mother, Mary Monica Onak of Posen, IL; and his sister, Joan Marie Onak of Palos Heights, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Frank Onak. A viewing for Gerry will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Rice Mortuary in Torrance from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Memorial service will be Monday, June 30, 2008, at 3:00 PM at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 21100 Victor Street, Torrance. The family would like to thank the doctors and other medical staff at Kaiser Permanente, including the hospice staff, for their constant caring and compassion. The family plans to memorialize Gerry through the purchase of a resting bench along one of the pathways at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.
