Lt. Col. Gerald (Gerry) Edward Gomme, 85, of Manhattan Beach, passed on in the early morning hours of Friday, November 9, 2007 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. He was born December 23, 1921 in Eddyville, Nebraska, eldest son of the late Hazel and Walter Gomme of Hawk Springs, Wyoming. He graduated in 1938 from LaGrange High School, LaGrange, Nebraska. He served in WWII as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying B-25 Mitchell Bombers on submarine patrol in the So. Atlantic on the Island of Ascention, then served as an Air Force Reservist until his retirement. He attended the University of Wyoming studying aeronautical engineering and attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in, Tulsa, OK. He began his career in the aerospace industry in Tulsa as Chief Engineer at Technical Training Aids, then moved to North American Inc. and retired after 30 years. He generously volunteered for many organizations such as: Travelers Aid Society at LAX, the USO, HOLT Intl. Children’s Services, Volunteer Center of L.A., the City of Manhattan Beach., the U.S. Olympic Society, and was a Little League coach. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Assoc., National Management Assoc. of Rockwell, NRA, National Aeronautics Space Admin., among others. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Clark Gomme of 59 yrs. (their 60th anniversary was to be on Dec. 20), daughters, Terry Gomme and Janis Gomme-Campbell, and son Ricky Gomme; six grandchildren, two brothers, Robert Gomme and wife, Norma, Moore OK. and Frank Gomme and wife, Maryanne, Arnold, MD. Services will be held at White & Day Mortuary, Manhattan Beach, Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with viewing from 9:00-11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery
