Fritz
Fritz Otto Julius Rathel passed away of heart failure at his home on April 17, 2008. He was born in Pattag, Germany on July 16 1932. He grew up in a small farm town in the eastern part of Germany, which is now part of Poland, where he had a nice simple life for the early part of his childhood. He lost his father in World War II at the age of 12, after which he was forced to leave his hometown. He had to begin working at this early age and had to live apart from his mother and sister. He lost his mother to cancer at the age of 16. Not having much reason to stay in one place he moved around to different cities throughout Germany, where he worked as a butcher, the trade he had learned since being a child. He had said that he would have preferred to have become a top chef, but his circumstances didn't allow it. After living in Germany for the first 30 years of his life he decided he needed to reside in a warmer climate, so he moved to Australia. After living there for a little while he wanted to try something different so he moved to the U.S.A. He moved to the Los Angeles area in 1963. This was supposed to have been his last stop before moving back to Germany, but he met and fell in love with his wife, whom he spent the rest of his life with in the Los Angeles area. He most enjoyed taking vacations along with his wife and children to visit his sister and niece back in Germany. He loved meeting with his friends when he was younger, watching little league baseball, and watching triple feature matinees at the movie theatre. He was preceded in death by his sister Renate. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Carlota, son Dennys, daughter Cindy, son Jeffrey and his wife Gladys, grandson Louis, niece Karen and her two sons Dennis and Daniel. Services will be held Saturday April 26, 2008 at White & Day Mortuary 3215 Sepulveda Blvd. Manhattan Beach, CA US 90266 at 11:00 AM. Immediately following will be graveside service held at Green Hills Memorial Park 27501 South Western Avenue Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
