Francis "Frank" King, long time resident of El Camino Village, passed away June 13, 2009 from complications related to a long battle with Parkinson's. He was surrounded by his beloved family at the time of his death. Frank was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 30, 1922 to Minnie and Frank King. He attended the University of North Dakota before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed on Tinian Island in the Pacific during World War II. In 1949, Frank married Janet, his sweetheart from Grand Forks, North Dakota, at St. Joseph's Church in Hawthorne, California. In 1951 he began his career in aerospace at North American Aviation. He retired 36 years later at age 65 from Boeing. Frank enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working in his garden and traveling. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 60 years; three daughters - Marsha (Bill) Vas of Torrance, Sharon (Mark) Cahalane of Bend, Oregon, Katie Tunell (John) of Chantilly, Virginia; three grandchildren - Nicole Vas, Corey Cahalane, Kristin Cahalane; and two brothers - Lowell King of Dearborn, Michigan and Malcolm King of San Jacinto, California. Funeral services and reception will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance on Tuesday, June 16 at 2pm. His burial will be in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
